Nowadays it's hard to conceive our lives without personal computers. We use them at work and for amusement. Communication with friends, listening to music, watching videos, playing games and different other operations are presented by computers. Personal computers are strongly associated with computer data. Info is usually stored on the hard disk of the PC, but it's highly recommended to get a copy of all the significant data on other information storage media. This will provide the security of these data in case of problems with the HD. There are several types of data storage media. The most popular of them are magnetic tapes, hard disk, compact and digital video discs and flash memory discs. All these media have their pluses and minuses. It is up to you to take a decision what recording medium to select to save your back up data. Magnetic tape used to be the most popular medium for data storage. It is an access medium, so the access time is slower than if you use HD. But at the same time continuous writing and reading are as a rule much faster. With the invention of new recording mediums floppy disks have become obsolete, but nevertheless they are in use in special situations, as they represent the most reliable data storage media. One more type of information storage media is optical disk backup system, generally referred to as compact discs and digital versatile disks. This system is efficient and easy in use. An essential plus of these discs is that information can be stored to and read from these discs almost on any PC with a typical CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drive. Flash memory disk backup system, including USB, SmartMedia, Memory Stick and others, constitutes the following move of information storage development. These devices are portable, easy to use and able to store a lot of information. All the modern personal computers have an opportunity to read data from these discs. Their only minus is high price in comparison to floppy or optical disks. But at the same time flash disk system is the most reliable and convenient data storage medium. |
